AiA Waves · Curated Stay
A gilded, oceanfront fantasy in Miami's Mid-Beach, Faena is unlike anything else on Collins Avenue. Conceived by visionary developer Alan Faena and brought to life by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, the Oscar-winning duo behind Moulin Rouge, every corner of this hotel is a work of art. The lobby, known as The Cathedral, soars with gold columns and floor-to-ceiling murals by artist Juan Gatti. In the Mammoth Garden beside the pool, a gold-leafed woolly mammoth skeleton by Damien Hirst stands in its own glass vitrine, setting the tone for an experience that is unapologetically maximalist.
The rooms and suites are saturated in crimson and gold, with floor-to-ceiling ocean views that ground the fantasy in something breathtaking and real. The pool and beach, lined with red-and-white striped umbrellas and palm trees, are among the most photographed in Miami. And the dining is extraordinary: Los Fuegos by Francis Mallmann brings the legendary Argentine chef's fire-driven cuisine to an outdoor veranda, while El Secreto offers intimate Omakase, and Pao by Paul Qui delivers Asian-influenced fine dining.
"Faena is not a hotel. It is a total work of art. You are inside it."
For those who find most luxury hotels too quiet, too beige, too careful, Faena is the antidote. Flamboyant, theatrical, alive with colour and energy, it is South Beach glamour elevated to something approaching the sublime. Stay here and Miami will never feel ordinary again.
