Suspended between sea and sky above the Amalfi Coast

The pool ends where the sky begins. Below it, the Tyrrhenian Sea opens out beneath Ravello, and behind it stands an 11th-century palazzo: frescoed ceilings, stone arches, Mediterranean gardens on the slope. Its story as a hotel began in 1893, when Pantaleone Caruso and Emilia Cicalese opened the Pensione Belvedere in a wing of Palazzo d'Afflitto. It reopened after restoration in 2005. Over the years, its guests have included Virginia Woolf, Greta Garbo and Jackie Kennedy.

Rooms and suites reflect the palazzo's character, with selected suites opening onto private terraces or gardens. At Ristorante Il Pantaleone by Armando Aristarco, Campanian tradition meets a contemporary approach on a terrace above the coast. Caruso Grill keeps the table closer to the pool. Two settings, one view, and no reason to hurry either.

The coast becomes part of the day. Guests join a complimentary daily boat excursion along the Amalfi Coast, with transfers from the hotel, and a scheduled shuttle runs to Amalfi. Back on the hill, the spa and gardens invite a slower afternoon, while Villa Margherita offers suites within the grounds. A morning on the water, an afternoon at the palazzo, an evening with the coast in view.
